Intro to Needle Felting and Knit/Crochet Felted Flower Techniques

Meeting Dates: Wednesday, May 6, 2015 – 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Spring is the time for flowers. Come and learn to make flowers two different ways – with needle felting needles and with knitting needles.
You will learn:
- Free-form needle-felting using a variety of roving
- Shaping your needle-felting
- Changing colors to your needle-felting
- The Knit Cast-On
- Variety of ways to increase and why and when to use these decreases
- Variety of ways to decrease and why and when to use these decreases
- Short rows
- And lots of extra tips and directions.
Instructions will be provided at the beginning of class. Please bring a notebook for additional notes. We will be ordering pizza during the class for lunch or you can bring your own.
Please choose from the following yarns – touch them all and choose a feel and color you love. You will need a few skeins of yarn – one for each color you would like to include…. Possible suggestions are a Pink, Red or Purple for Petals, a Yellow or White for Flower Middle and a Green if you would like Stems or Leaves. Here are a few suggestions:
- Plymouth Galway Worsted
- Cascade 220
- Plymouth Gina
- Plymouth Homestead
You will also need Roving… we suggest any of the following Ivy Brambles Rovings in your color choices – Merino Wool, Cormo Wool, Shetland, Border Leicester, Wensleydale or Cotswold.
1 Package of Creative Fiber Artists Needle Felting Needles
1 Foam Block or Clover Brush
Needles - US 8 Knitting Needle, Straight or Circular
A Notebook and Pen/Pencil
Locking Stitch Marker (to use on a dropped stitch)
Class Pre-requisites: Student should know how to knit and purl. Yes, that is all you need to know – we will learn the other stitches in class!
